Dell New Inspiron
Dell is set to launch a series of new Inspiron notebooks.
Having had an Inspiron 700m for what sees like ages now, feel good that Dell is coming off of its battery woes, but only time (and the gadget-buying public) will prove that right …

HP Plans to Own OS Based on Linux
The BusinessWeek runs a story about HP exploring ways to come up with their own OS to offer something simpler than the still ill-reputed Windows Vista. The netbook vendors led by Asus have shown how that works offering Netbooks with Linux variants that surprisingly work well. Microsoft could last minute squeeze in XP to still be part of that computer segment. HP has nice hardware like the Touchsmart, which have what it takes to compete with Apple hardware. Apple has the better cards though with their straight forward OS X that is a very attractive choice for many consumers that can afford the Apple hardware tax. More details on the potential HP OS plans can be found in this article on BusinessWeek.

But the Chinese buyers can now turn to the IdeaPad U8 Lenovo’s online store, priced at 4999 yuan ($ 731). For that, you get a 4.8-inch WVGA touch-sensitive screen, a 800MHz processor, WiFi, Bluetooth and 512MB RAM.
But the WiMAX and 3G support mentioned earlier seems to have fallen by the wayside, with the maximum integrated EDGE data connection. The images with the online offering a shot of the U8 complete with a USB modem China Telecom stabbing awkwardly from the top, so you probably have your own high-speed hook-up.
At present, Lenovo are running a promotion Monday Festival – until september 20 – that makes the U8, a Lenovo U210 cellphone, lomo camera, 2 GB SD card, ThinkPad memorial baseball cap, Skywalker GPS software and a “club membership card, “Probably some kind of special Lenovo owners club. The MID is now available.
